FOR GLADIATORS!!!

This information is specifically for Gladiators.

General Rules & Information

  1. *NEW* We are an ancient Roman role play sim.  First and foremost we role play.  Fighting is part of the role play but it is not the primary reason for being here.  If your interest in being a gladiator is strictly to fight then we are probably not the right place for you.  When you are here in the ludus please be prepared to role play with the other gladiators or other characters that may interact with you. Gladiators do train a lot so feel free to spar with each other but you MUST also role play that training.  When we have games in the arena you are also expected to role play your actions pre-match, during the match and post match.  Also, when role playing, stay in character at all times.
  2. Filipa Thespian (that’s me) owns this ludus ic and ooc and as such, is the only authority in the ludus.  If you have ooc questions, concerns, issues, ideas, please feel free to IM me right away, please do not hesitate for a moment so that I can fix what’s wrong or work to implement your ideas where possible.
  3. Your RP is your RP.  Ooc’ly you have the right to determine what sort of RP you wish to have or not have.  If anything transpires that you do not like, first, IM the other player and let them know, for example:  “can we take this another way, this is not something I’d like to be doing really.”  If you can’t resolve it between you, please come to me immediately and I will resolve it for you.
  4. We hold ooc meetings to discuss things pertinent to the ludus, our role-play, questions, concerns, ideas, etc.  If you do not attend, your voice cannot be heard.  Right now the dates of these meetings will fluctuate some while we sort out  the best day (i.e. every other Sunday or whatever) to hold them.
  5. If there is no one in the ludus for an hour and you’re here, and you can think up a good RP reason to do it, you are permitted to go into town to role-play BUT there are some very important rules about this:
    1. You must disguise your identity.  If anyone discovers, in RP, that you are a Gladiator, you will be arrested and brought back here in chains and punished likely.
    2. No Gladiator can be found out in the city, even with me, without being cloaked.
    3. No Gladiator would have been out in the city unguarded so you must RP at least one (preferably two) guards with you at all times.  If you forget to RP this in BEFORE any conflict happens, then they are not there and you must face the consequences.
  6. If you have to go AFK, GET OFF THE SANDS … best to go to your usual sleeping compartment (if you’ve earned a private room go there, otherwise to the group cages) so that people know you are unavailable for RP.
  7. NOTE: anywhere in this document that talks about your requirements to be here to hold titles or compete, the meaning of “being here” or “time here” is that you are NOT AFK ALL THE TIME!  You must actively be engaged with others and participate.  If you log in and hide in afk the whole night, it doesn’t count as being here.

Earning your Gladiator title

  1. Be here!  Role-play!  Train.
  2. When it has been determined you can hold your own upon the sands, you will have your challenge.  This challenge will consist of 3 bouts with the most qualified Gladiator who is online at the time of the determination by YOUR LANISTA!  However, she will have received input from other Gladiators upon the sands about your skill, to help guide her decisions.
  3. Once earned, your position as Gladiator of House Thespian is secure unless:
    1. You do not come to sim to role-play for a consecutive 3 weeks, or if longer, you may be ejected with a warm farewell from the House Group, figuring that you’ve moved on and decided this is no longer right for you.  Remember as in all things COMMUNICATION IS PIVOTAL not to mention courteous to the rest of us 🙂
    2. You can always come back, we don’t want to see you go!

Participating in Arena Games

Any Gladiator wishing to participate in the Arena Games for any given week, must meet the following criteria or they will not be eligible i.e. will not be permitted to compete:

  1. You must have been in sim, role-playing and training, for a minimum of 2 days prior to any given arena event.
  2. You must have earned your Gladiator title (i.e. cannot be “Novicius”).
  3. Arena competitions will begin with the lowest ranked gladiators competing, the winner working his way up to the next above him and so on until we reach the Primus.  Winner of the Primus will bear the title of “Champion of Belladonna” until such time as someone wins it away from him.
    1. If the Champion misses 2 arena competitions in a row, his title automatically goes up for someone else to win in the third.
    2. How you place in the arena games (i.e. primus, secondus, tertius, etc.) will be your ranking in the ludus as well. The only way to change you ranking is to fight and win a better position in the arena games.
      1. In this competition it will be left up to your skill as a fighter.
      2. You will need to show great sportsmanship
      3. You will need to demonstrate great use of RP surrounding your wins and losses too.
  4. Historically we’ve done arena matches on Saturday nights, however, we request best nights of availability from any who portray a Gladiator so we can be sure we’re doing this on the best possible evening for everyone.
    1. This is part of your Application, If you did not have this section in the app you were given when you joined, then it’s been updated since then, please ask for a new copy and update your app accordingly and resubmit.

Regarding earned titles & gifts in the house.

No title is assumed the right of any player.  It has to be earned, and you need to keep earning it by being present, role-playing, holding up the responsibilities of that title and otherwise interacting as that title requires.

If something comes up in your RL that will keep you from being here, I am so sorry and we will look forward to your return when things calm down, but, not even that will not hold positions for anyone.  It’s not fair to the rest of the Gladiators to have to be on hold while you’re not here regardless of the reasons.

If you lose your title for absences, and you come back and then meet the requirements for the title, you will have the right to earn it back!

Available titles in House Thespian are:

DOCTORE: A RP position, does not fight or compete, is given one of the private rooms as his own.  All rules about being here apply to this role for he is pivotal to the rp of everyone in this ludus.

  1. If you wish to assume the mantle of Doctore, please contact me to share with me your interest.
  2. If the current Doctore falls into the “MIA” category as outlined herein (i.e. isn’t around and therefor is losing his title), then i will go to the list of those who have
expressed interest.  If there is more than one, they will duke it out to obtain the title.  If there is only one, he will get it by default.

Title comes with one of the two (2) remaining private rooms available:

  1. Primus
  2. Secondus

Titles will sleep in the group quarters with the rest of the Gladiators:

  1. Tertius
  2. Quartus
  3. Quintus
  4. Sextus

The above mentioned titles can be earned by anyone who wants them.

  1. If you have a title above in this ludus, it is because you are present a lot, role-play a lot, train a lot and put a lot into your own success and that of this house.  They are rewards that should never be taken for granted.
  2. If you are not in sim, role-playing and training, for a consecutive 2-weeks, you will automatically lose your title and it becomes available for someone else to earn.
    1. If this happens, The title will be up for grabs at the next arena games and will be awarded to whoever wins it.
  3. If things change for you and you are once again here a lot, you, just like anyone else here, will have the ability to earn the title once again.
  4. All titled Gladiators are fed MEAT when available and afforded privileges and luxuries that non-titled Glads do not get (when the Lanista so desires it).  Likewise, those who win in the arena, for that night (or next day if rp doesn’t continue after) will get these privileges as a reward.
